The Stephen Ministry
The Stephen Ministry slogan is “Christ Caring for People through People.” This program trains and “equips lay
people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals . . . who are experiencing difficulties in
their lives.” Stephen Ministry care involves listening and talking with the care receiver, and praying with and for
that person.
St. Peter was involved in Stephen Ministry several years ago, and we are pleased to join 1st Methodist and
Epworth Methodist in renewing this effort. Three of our St. Peter family have completed the initial training.
Kathryn Jones and Sarah Hadfield have been commissioned as Stephen Ministers and Pastor Thompson will
serve to connect potential care receivers with the program.
As Stephen Ministers, we will meet regularly for supervision and continuing education, in addition to meeting our
care receivers. Confidentiality is of utmost importance in this ministry, and to that end, caregivers may work with
care receivers from other congregations. Stephen Ministry care is available to those not affiliated with a particular
congregation as well.
We ask for your help to further our work by praying for us and the care receivers we will serve, and by telling others
in need about our Stephen Ministry. Inquiries can be made through Pastor Thompson, 505-887-3033, or Pastor
Dan Bruce at Epworth Methodist Church, 505-887-7501.
